Localsnow.org brings
you year round links and information about skiing, snowboarding, mountain
hiking, biking, snowshoeing activities. It is true that
the prevailing jet stream moves onto the North American
continent via the Pacific Northwest. So, it is no wonder that this air arrives from
the arctic or north pacific ocean laden with the moisture and cold it has picked up along the way.
The inevitable consequence is orogenic precipitation and in the winter, mountain snow.
Such is the good fortune of the Pacific Northwest. If by chance the jet stream is diverted to the
south, then the Sierra Nevada of California may receive this precipitation.
